2020 will be remembered for its challenges and, for many of us, the sad losses it brought. The health and socio-economic consequences of the pandemic are multi-faceted and deep. They may affect us for years ahead, like a domino. Let’s hope this harsh experience is helping us become wiser.
For many, COVID-19 was an eye-opener about the importance of water, sanitation and hygiene to safeguard health. The necessity to fight inequalities and secure human rights for all is now more urgent than ever. For our part, GWP-Med, along with our partners and supporters, rapidly adapted our operations to these unprecedented conditions and advanced our thematic agendas in the service of our beneficiaries, including with responses related to the pandemic.
2021 brings optimism, but this needs to be grounded in positive action and concrete results. Demand for progress is now even stronger, and the GWP-Med team is fully engaged in adding value for water security and climate resilience in Mediterranean countries, including through assisting mobilisation of green investments in response to the pandemic’s longer-term impacts.
Aiming to connect with our partners and bring new collaborators on board with us on this journey, we herewith launch the ‘GWP-Med NewsFlow’, a monthly news bulletin on our activities, pursuits and opportunities. We hope you will find it useful, triggering further synergies on joint objectives.
Vangelis Constantianos,
GWP-Med Executive Secretary & Regional Coordinator
