The "Zero Drop" water resources protection program, implemented by GWP-Med with funding from The Coca-Cola Foundation, in collaboration with Coca-Cola in Greece, continued its 'journey' to a new water-stressed location. The programme is implementing an innovative water recycling and reuse solution at a Municipal water treatment plant in Tanagra, Greece, minimising water losses and reducing energy footprint. The technical intervention was delivered to the Municipality during a special event on 30 November 2023. |
📰 "Zero Drop's" new water conservation game reaches schoolchildren in Heraklion, Crete |
A new "snakes and ladders" water conservation game, especially developed under the "Zero Drop" program, aims to support teachers’ efforts to explain complex issues related to water management and convey practical tips on water conservation in a gamified setting. Developed with the MEdIES network of MIO-ECSDE, thanks to the support of Coca-Cola, the game will be donated to all primary and secondary schools in the Municipality of Heraklion, a total of nearly 100 schools. |

Horizon 2020 REXUS and LENSES PRIMA projects move forward to mainstream Nexus tools in practice |
The 5th Joint Plenary meeting of Horizon 2020 REXUS and LENSES PRIMA projects took place in Larisa, Greece, 7-9 November 2023. The projects’ scientific teams and stakeholders from 11 pilots from the Mediterranean, Europe and Latin America explored ways of fine tuning the tools and methods designed by the two projects in order to address WEFE Nexus challenges. GWP-Med, leader of the Communication and Dissemination Work Package designed a comprehensive media strategy around the event, ensuring widespread media coverage on Greek local and national media. |

The Lebanese Ministry of Energy and Water, with the assistance of GWP-Med, has recently concluded the review process of SDG indicator 6.5.1 in Lebanon. The consultative review process concluded with a multi-stakeholder workshop, held on 28 November 2023, where participants identified key priority action areas for advancing IWRM implementation in Lebanon. |

GWP-Med, the International Commission for Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) and partners joined forces for the 6th African Young Water Professionals Forum under the platform of the 6th Cairo Water Week. GWP-Med held a session on 30 October 2023, on the theme of Gender Today for the Leader of Tomorrow in Sustainable Water & Agriculture Management. The session spotlighted the critical role of gender-transformative approaches (GTA) and youth engagement in the realm of water management and smart irrigation systems, benefitting from the findings of the Water, Climate, Development, and Gender Investments (WACDEP-G) project implemented within the framework of the African Water Investment Programme (AIP). |
AIP WACDEP-G: the case of Tunisia |

GWP was active throughout the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28), which was convened in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, from 30 November to 12 December 2023. Over the two weeks of COP28, GWP was involved in more than 20 sessions, co-curated a thematic day in the Water for Climate Pavilion, and pursued a range of bilateral exchanges. Among other contributions and a range of side meetings, on Sunday 10 December, Vangelis Constantianos, GWP-Med Executive Secretary participated in the Session 'Local Authorities and the Management of Water Stress', organised by the Government of Morocco. |
